STEP – 5

Today, we shall just get into the essence of all the previous posts on “happiness”

Sai confirmed – “You wander restlessly from forest to forest,' he tells us, 'while the reality is within your own dwelling. The truth is here! 'Many of us spend our lives looking for happiness from external things, and all the time, while we go to the ends of the earth in search of it, it’s nearer to us than anything else: in our own being.”

We have spent the entire life/ several previous births perhaps in searching for the reality, the real bliss/ happiness, outside us, which have been amply described in the earlier 2 day’s posts.

We are originally the source of all joy if we have to believe in the above Swami’s words and I am sure we do believe in His words. In between our arriving in this creation as TRUE, as BLEMISHLESS, as PERFECT as GOD Himself and today as what we are, some thing has happened to us due to us and due to that happening (collective happenings), we have moved away from our true identity. 

Swami gave a call to retrace and reach our true identity when He wrote the following poem:

Children of Immortality! Remember that you are created In my image and likeness. Perfect! Live up to this image, in every way, in all planes. Live like Masters! Walk this earth with your heads held high, Your spirits soaring... Your hearts open to Love... And believe in yourself and God within you. Then all will go well. Earth is but a manifestation of My Being. Made out of My Life! Wherever you look, I am there. Wherever you walk, I am there. Whomsoever you contact, I am that person. I am in each, in all My Splendour. See Me everywhere, Talk to Me and love Me, Who am in each. Then from each, I will respond And bring you into Glory. You cannot see Me in one place and not in another, For I fill all space. You cannot escape Me Or do anything in secret, For there are no secrets with Me. Live... Live... Live... in perfect accordance With My laws, and wonders will ensue. Think now. Does error clog the free flowing Essence of My Being through you? Ask Me this moment to reveal to you your errors In the silence of your meditation. Let old memories well up in you, From My subconscious in you... Old patterns... Old forgotten feelings and thoughts. Now plunge them into the Ocean of Light, Burn them from the consciousness So that you may be true emblems of My Being. Right now, Visualize My burning flame Rising higher and higher As it burns through you. It is a flame that is cooling, Cleansing and healing, That soothes the hidden sorrow... And leaves you calmed and quiet. Rest in my Love. Let all that you have been through In your many lives up to this day, Melt away in My redeeming Light. Children of My Being! Dissolve your sorrows and fears in Me. Let me efface All your karma. Come back into My Consciousness, which is Your own true Consciousness. Let your petty human self fade away, right now, As you come to Me, who am your Inner Self. You are now My radiant glorious Self... No longer separate from Me. Melt with Me... Merge with Me...! Become Me!

So, now, as per the divine call,  we have to go back to His glorious SELF and in that process, our human petty self has to fade away!!!

FACT 4

So, the search for happiness is ON….

In a previous post, Swami Rama tirtha’s article vividly describes about the search of happiness which starts from the moment child comes out of mother’s womb, till the old man meets his death, with the object pursued for finding happiness changing in every stage!!

The following hard facts needs attention of a serious reader, in this search for happiness

   A human being, till the time Swami’s words “Happiness is union with God. If you want to be happy, join God. Then you can be happy” does not come true in his life, keeps continuously searching for eternal joy through out his life and it seems, not only he, but each and every created object is searching for joy in some other object in this creation!! A poet wrote “ Sooraj ko dharti tarse, dharti ko Chandra ma, pani mein seep jaise pyaasi har atma”

  This search thus is a vicious circle like a treasure hunt game where, each participant searches for the treasure in the other participant’s pocket whereas no one has the treasure in his pocket / underneath his hat (Because Swami declared, TRUE HAPPINESS IS WITHIN!

   As a man grows, based on his changing experience with / from this world, his changing perceptions, the object in which he searches, keeps on changing. This is beautifully described by Rama tirtha where he starts with the child’s search for happiness in his mother’s bosom and travels up to the old man’s search for joy in his grandson and so on!!!

   The object which gave him immense joy once upon a time, say , toys for a child, does not have any relevance for the same child when it grows to a youth and to a man. 

   This throws up the million dollar question “ If one object cannot continue to give eternal joy to one person at all times, is the propensity to give / shower joy to a man REALLY IN THAT OBJECT OR ELSEWHERE?????

   Now, a bitter, a hard fact, which, unfortunately, none of us are prepared to accept, but if we are true to ourselves and silently contemplate on this fact in alone ness, seated before the small shrine in our home when the world is asleep, we may .. ne… we must realize that this bitter fact is a truth, in relative terms. What is that bitter fact??? Swami Krishnananda has given this and the article has been posted earlier in the blog. 

I quote “Go on a world tour; go to every country, meet all people and ask, "Are you happy?" The answer you receive from these people is worth knowing. Sorrow gnaws into the vitals of human nature, and it is whitewashed by a smear of egoistic assertion of adequacy of oneself. As we cannot live like puny nothings in this world, we put forth great effort to parade in the eyes of people, and before our eyes also, that we are not what we are. Even if you have fallen down, you will say that your nose is not hurt.

It is not that we are befooling the word around us, but we are befooling ourselves in innocence and ignorance, believing that we are really happy in what ever we do, whereas WE DO THINGS ONLY FOR GAINING HAPPINESS WHICH IS NOT OTHERWISE EXPERIENCED BY US. 

Just sit back and analyse- our wearing hat/ sports shoes, sun glass, adorning dresses which may not suit us many times and starting for a picnic, shouting, singing, youth going to a pub, elders sitting around and engaging in talking, giggling, laughing….,  the parties, the marriages, the ceremonies…….. ARE ALL THESE NOT OUR SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS ONLY BECAUSE WE ARE OTHERWISE NOT HAPPY???????

IF, IN SMALL/ PETTY PURSUITS, WE HAVE SPENT SEVERAL BIRTHS SEARCHING FOR JOY, MUST WE NOT AIM FOR SOME THING WHEREBY, THIS HAPPINESS COMES, SETTLES AND DOES NOT LEAVE US???? DOES IT NOT MAKE SENSE?

THAT WHILE WE ARE CONTINUOUSLY WORKING, DOING SOME JOB FOR SOME COMPANY FOR SOME MONTHLY SALARY, WE DO THINK THAT WE MUST HIT A BIG JACKPOT ONCE AND SETTLE DOWN WITH THAT, THEN, IS IT NOT SIMILARLY LOGICAL THAT INSTEAD OF THIS HAPPINESS WHICH COMES AND GOES, WE SHOULD AIM AT THAT JACKPOT JOY WHICH COMES AND STAYS`?????

Dear Brothers and Sisters, 

Instead of starting with the miseries of human being, we will learn today, through some of the lines taken from the last few posts, the tree of human life in terms of happiness, starting from Man as God to Man as man!!

THE GRAND TRUTH

Let us go through few lines from the last week’s posts, which converge on one single truth

THUS, INSTEAD OF STARTING WITH OUR CHAOTIC STATE AT PRESENT, WE HAVE STARTED WITH THE 1^ST STEP AS THE LAST REALIZATION- “YOU ARE ALWAYS HE, YOU ARE THAT JOY, YOU ARE THE IMAGE OF HAPPINESS”

FACT 1

WE, THOUGH ARE VERILY HE, THE GOD, ARE UNABLE TO EXIST 24/7 AS SAI. I WOULD HOPE THAT THERE CAN BE NO CONTRADICTION TO THIS FACT IN HUMAN LIFE, EXCEPT FOR REALIZED MASTERS

FACT 2

This fact is subtle and often not realized by we human. we are the image of happiness, god himself as per the grand truth above but we are unable to exist as that God 24/7 as per fact 1.

so, what happens????? like we observe in the world around us, though a man can act in various ways, project so many different images of himself as per the need of the hour, the real nature /chracter of the man always remains in tact and on close observations, no matter how he acts, what he does, one can make out the real nature of that man. Similarly, though man is not able to exist as god, the source of happiness, still, in every act, in every walk of his life, he is always in search of that true happiness because, THAT TRUE HAPPINESS IS REAL NATURE.

WE ARE UNAWARE OF THE TRUTH IS THAT HE IS GOD AND GOD IS LOVE/ TRUE HAPPINESS BUT AT SUBTLEST LEVEL, THIS TRUTH IS ALWAYS THERE WITHIN AND HENCE, THIS VERY TRUTH PROPELS MAN TO SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS IN EACH AND EVERY ACT HE DOES, EACH AND EVERY PURSUIT IN HIS LIFE

FACT 3

“……Kabir compares human beings to fish who complain about being thirsty, without realising that they can drink the water they're swimming in.”

Our search for happiness, our own nature, has thus begun, unfortunately not within, but in the world around us.

Lo and behold, every other human is in search of the same search of real happiness. Since one can search only a treasure which he thinks as not with him already, we are all imperfect, inherently unhappy, searching for happiness outside!

In the process, we are hitting/ facing/encountering each other, searching for that real happiness in each other whereas all of us have started this search ever since we became conscious of ourselves in our child hood, because we firmly believed that we are already not THAT TRUE HAPPINESS/ LOVE/ GOD- THE GRAND TRUTH!!

Let us take the above Grand truth and 3 facts for today, think on the same in our evening walk/ in our relaxed hour during the day, come  face to face with these facts which are often hidden not because they are secretive in nature but because- WE HAVE BEEN SPENDING OUR LIFE IN DISCOVERING/ SEEING/ KNOWING WHAT IS OUTSIDE US AND HAVE MISSED IN DISCOVERING THE ABOVE FACTS WHICH ARE WITHIN US AND NOT EVEN THE ALLMIGHTY BUT IT IS WE WHO CAN KNOW THESE FACTS AS EASILY AS WE CAN SEE OUR FACE IN THE MIRROR.
