Introduction to Vedas and Vedanta - Part 33

Dear All,

So, the stage is set for the disciple to seek the true knowledge from his Acharya who stressed upon the need for the prospective disciple to attain / amass the wealth of   4 qualifications and sent him back to acquire the same and then come back to Him.

The disciple enters the kutir of his Guru and prostrates at His feet.

Here begins the real Guru-Sishya parampara.

The Disciple has few questions coupled with prayers to the enlightened master!!

SVAAMIN NAMASTE NATA-LOKA-BANDHO
KAARUNYA-SINDHO PATITAM BHAVAABDHAU
MAAMUDDHAR'AATMIIYA-KATAAKSHHA-DRSHHTYAA
R^JVYAATIKAARUNYA-SUDH'AABHIVR SHHTYAA

"Hail, Lord, friend of those who bow before You, and ocean of compassion. I have fallen into this sea of samsara. Save me with a direct glance from Your eye which bestows grace like nectar.

Salutation to thee, O Lord, full of compassion, O friend of those who bend before Thee. I have fallen into the ocean of birth and rebirth. Rescue me by Thy never failing glance which rains the ambrosia of sincerity and mercy."

DURVAARA-SAMSAARA-DAV'AAGNI-TAPTAM
 DODHUUYAMAANAM DURA-DR^SHHTA-VAATAIH
BHIITAM PRAPANNAM PARIPAAHI MR^TYOH
SHARANYAM ANYAD YAD AHAM NA JAANE

"I am stricken by the unquenchable forest fire of samsara and blown about by the unavoidable winds of circumstances. Save me from death, for I am afraid and have come to You for refuge. I know of no one else to help me.

Protect from death, him who is heated by the roaring wild fire of changing life so difficult to extinguish, him who is oppressed and buffeted by the blasts of misfortune, since no other refuge do I know."

(Vivekachudamani)

The disciple thus surrenders himself, his total identity at the feet of his Master and calls out to the Master to rescue him from this unending cycle of birth and death, the samsara.

He has realized the futility of this objective world; he has developed Vairagya through Viveka and Mumukshatva through Shad Sampat.

However, his past life, his past actions still follow him like his shadow and here he is, standing at a crucial stage in his life where,

He has known that this world is a mithya, a super imposition, a mirage and not real.

He wants to transcend this world and realize the ultimate truth which he hopes his Acharya will hold his hand and teach him.

In between this futility of unreal and his quest for real, he has the shadow of all his past which he cannot transcend till the Master accepts him in His ashram and takes him over and says, as Guru Yukteshwar said to Paramahamsa Yogananda, “Allow me to work through you”.

Hari Aum Tatsat.
