One
who cannot be agitated by the world
In the 2 qualities above, in fact, the second quality should
appear first. The world is not agitated by him, ONLY after he attains that state
in which he is not agitated by the world.
From where agitation can arise?? It is in one’s mind.
Already, we have seen that he has dedicated his mind and intellect to the
Lord.
Such a person / devotee / sage may not go about
sharing his love explicitly with one and all. He may, when a situation arises,
when someone has to be pacified, when someone’s pain has to be removed or
reduced.
Even when he does not share his love explicitly, we
human beings are endowed with a power to catch the positive/negative vibrations
in air.
So, when human beings happen to be near such a devotee
/ sage, even while they may or may not know his exact state, still, they can
sense the positive vibrations around him, at least, it will not be possible for
them to get agitated with him on any grounds.
Rather, most of the human beings
will experience a sense of harmony / peace and love even when they
gather around such a person, in most of the circumstances.
A Swamiji writes,
“When the
moods of love and compassion rise to a sufficiently high pedestal, the aura of
this great yogi touches everything in the atmosphere around, and the world will
behave in respect of that person in a similar manner as the person behaves in
respect of the world.”
Chinmaya writes,
“A Man-of-Perfection is one who will not create any
agitations in the world around him. Where the Sun is, there cannot be any
darkness, where the peaceful Master of Equanimity and Perfection dwells, he, by
the intrinsic divinity in him, creates, as it were, an atmosphere of serene joy
and endless peace around him; and even those, who are agitated in the world,
will suffer no more from such agitations when they approach such a master-mind,
and enjoy a peace in themselves.
Not only does a Man-of-Perfection quieten the very
world around him, into a dynamic peace, but also the world, however chaotic,
revolting, boisterous, and vengeful it may be, cannot create any agitations in
him.”
Harshaam
arshabhyod wegair Mukto
Free
from joy, envy, fear and anxiety
Free from exhilaration,
free from anger, free from fear, and free from agitation of any kind — such a
person is harṣāmarṣa
bhaya udvega mukto.
Harṣāmarṣa means getting exhilarated when something
pleasant comes and becoming angry when something unpleasant comes, Bhaya is the fear that
something may come and hinder our path of pleasure, and Udvega is agitation
caused when all these are present.
One who is free
from harsha, amarsha, bhaya and udvega is dear to God: sa ca me priyaḥ.
As against all other 25 qualities, one quality
overweighs all other quality and that is “Being free from ego”.
Freedom from ego is being dealt by the author
separately through talks in smaller group.
Those who have understood what he has explained about
“Freedom from ego” would appreciate that all other 25 qualities are adjectives /
commentary on the devotee who has transcended his individual ego and
has merged with God / Universal consciousness.
