Bhagwad Gita - Post 199

Verse 5

The divine nature is deemed for liberation and the demoniacal for bondage. Grieve not, O Arjuna, for thou art born with divine properties!

Daivī saṁpad vimokṣāya 

“If these divine qualities are adopted in your daily life, they will lead you to final liberation gradually, stage by stage.” 

Nibandhāyāsurī matā

“But if you resort to the undivine qualities, you shall be bound hand and foot more and more every day, until it will be difficult for you to extricate yourself from this bondage. Arjuna! Don’t be afraid. You are born of divine qualities.” 

Mā śucaḥ: “Don’t be afraid. Don’t grieve.” 

Saṁpadaṁ daivīm abhijāto’si

“You are born with qualities that are divine. You are really good and gentlemanly in your nature. You are a divine person.”

The sequence of each line, each expression in these verses, even while the author starts writing on them, he is awestruck as to How beautifully  the sequence has been built by the lord. Let us see the beauty of the sequence of this verse.

1)    The Lord gave the divine and the demonic qualities in the earlier verses.

2)  Now, the Lord explains the consequences of having divine / demonic qualities. 

3)   Though the verse does not pronounce explicitly, it has to be observed that as per the qualities/ characteristics one is endowed with, his actions are shaped accordingly. Good thoughts/ good nature leads to good actions and ultimately to liberation whereas demonic nature leads to evil/ bad actions which fetches karma accordingly and for clearing those KARMAs, man is born again and again and hence, the lord says, such nature/qualities will lead to bondage.

4)   Even while the listener tends to get panic on hearing the above and starts looking into his past actions, his nature etc, the Lord  comes to the rescue and like a Big God Wave reveals the real nature of the wave which is  grieving and fearing its imminent death, Lord here says,

5) “Don’t be afraid. Don’t grieve.” “You are born with qualities that are divine. You are really good and gentlemanly in your nature. You are a divine person.”

Thus, reminding the Bhakta that 

*    you are not the wave which you think you are, you are the substratum water, 

*    you are not the drawings on the pure canvass, you are the pure canvass yourself, 

*    you are not the shape of various pot good/bad/worse/ugly/beautiful etc., you are verily the space within the pot, 

*     you are not the ornament which you think, you are verily the Gold, 

O Bangaru!!!!

Verse 6

There are two types of beings in this world—the divine and the demoniacal; the divine has been described at length; hear from Me, O Arjuna, of the demoniacal!

Daivo vistaraśaḥ prokta

“Now, I have mentioned to you something about the good qualities, saintly qualities, divine qualities, in the earlier verses.” 

Lord Krishna has not actually gone into detail, but yet he says, “I have gone into detail in regard to the good qualities.” 

But actually he goes into greater detail in the description of the demoniacal qualities. 

Actually, there is no need for reading about these demoniacal qualities because every day we are witnessing, facing, reading only about manifestation of demonic qualities in human beings.

But, several thousand years ago, Lord had anticipated that the next Yuga will be filled with human beings with such demonic qualities and hence, Bhagwad Gita describes even the demonic qualities in this chapter!!
