Rajneesh

Dear All,

The above quote gives us a practical, yet profound perspective on how to  enjoy life without being slave to our senses.

" Non attachment brings bliss" says the master. We did deal with the difference between detachment and non-attachment before also, but it is given again as a recap.

Detachment

Detachment is a very strong word. It means to repulse some thing to which we are attached or attracted.

Non-Attachment

Positive attraction is known as non-attachment, acceptance of the situations without negatively reacting them.

Dear All,

Let us take 2  example to be clear about what is said above.

1) Detachment-  In orthodox religions, some times, a youth is instructed to be a celibate without marrying and following the religious instructions strictly .

This calls for detachment or to repulse/ to draw away from some thing you may be attracted. It is natural for a man to get attracted to a woman, to aspire to lead a life with a woman etc.

So, unless there is a conviction to follow religion to the core and dedicate one's life for the same, this so called detachment may increase negativity within that youth's heart, he may even be carrying an image of a woman in his mind all through, imagining himself to be with her and ultimately ends up in frustration, as he has to be forcibly away from marriage etc.

2) Non-attachment- In a  group proceeding on a pilgrimage/ picnic,  there are people  that you find really attractive and interesting. You know that you will share only a short time with them , but you intend to make the most out of the few days that you can spend together.
You  live these moments with joy, knowing that they won’t last forever, and that you will have to part ways. You accept the situation and still open yourself fully to the experience.

As in the example above, non-attachment in real life does not mean indifference: on the contrary, it will empower you to live every relationship with love and intensity, knowing that it could end at any moment.

When you love with non-attachment, you are not concerned with the results of your loving, which emanates from you just like perfume from a flower.

Non-attachment brings to your loving a quality of universality, in which the object of love is not anymore the cause of it. The source of any form of love is inside you, and you don’t depend on anyone to be able to express it.

If the above explanation is properly understood and taken in, can we not lead a life where, as the master has said before,

" Enjoy everything that life gives you but always remain ever-free"

So, there is nothing to accept, nothing to reject either- Just remain free and be in JOY"

Love

PS- Author thought, "if the readers find the details related to scriptures very vague, let  me write something today which is most simple and most practical, hoping that the same is understood clearly and easily by the readers!!"
